Urbano 9.1 – Main new features

 

 

1           Urbano BIM functionality

In Urbano 9.1, BIM functionality has been introduced.

1.1       New Panel with BIM functions

New panel has been introduced, to exclude new functions from system. This way it is possible to export all systems and their elements at once.

1.2       Export to IFC

Export to IFC exchange format has been improved – now it is possible to export all Urbano systems at once to IFC. When selecting data for export, it is possible to choose the data for all system types at once, and to add some other data for some particular system.

IFC export from Urbano can be imported to various IFC reading softwares, such as Navisworks, Revit or Solibri.

1.3       Export to NWC (Navisworks)

Export to NWC has been developed after the IFC export, and supports certain Navisworks features that was not possible to enable in the IFC export. With the great effort of StudioARS developing team, NWC export is a great functionality that allows the user to export all the systems at once, along with Urbano geometry and data, selection sets, Terraform surface and trench grading.  This way it is possible to create quantification and time analysis of the network in Navisworks.

2         Terraform – new features

2.1       Trench grading

In Urbano Terraform, new functionality for trench grading in the existing DTM has been added. Trench grading can be performed in the current DTM, or it is possible to create a copy of the existing DTM, and then perform trench grading in it, which is recommendable because it is always good to keep the main DTM that was used for assigning the terrain heights and invert elevations.

It is possible to export it to Navisworks as well, as mentioned previously.

3          Tables – new features

3.2       Dynamic tables

Dynamic tables have been significantly updated – it is possible to choose different settings for zoom and marking of the elements selected in the table. For example, you can choose to mark elements in layout and in longitudinal section when navigating through the table. Besides that, it is possible to input user data for nodes and sections directly in the table, as well as reset it.

4         Labels – new features

4.1       Label groups

New label groups were added – Station label, Channel label and Other:

4.2        Label templates

When creating new label, the program will open new dialog with the label templates. Each label template has been described with picture that shows the label. To create new label, it is necessary to choose the label and create new label according to the template. We decided to do it since there are many possibilities to configure labels in Urbano, and this way we will make it easier to the users.

4.3       Node label – invert data definition     

When defining node label, it is possible to add the data for pipe invert or depth, and to select the format of the label. There are also templates that allow the user to select certain label type and to set the parameters according to this type (described with picture as well).

5 Ribbon and Toolbar - New features 

Ribbon and Toolbar have been expanded with the command list. Also, it is possible for the user to create its own ribbon or more ribbons, with the selected commands. By default, Urbano offers four Ribbon tabs. Ribbon has been introduced for Polygons, too.

6         Invert definition – new functions

Edit pipe invert in longitudinal section – new function has been added, with the same options available in old function, but it is simpler – it is not necessary to select longitudinal section. It is enough to place the cursor above the longitudinal sections, pick inside and start working.

7.1       Rubrics – new features

New options for editing all rows and headers at once (text style, color and height, cell height) will speed-up configuration editing.

7.1.1        Header and rubric format

In new version, it is possible to define cell format for all header and data rubrics at once, but it is also possible to do it for each rubric separately, if it is necessary.  Each header/data rubric still has its own formatting parameters ->

7.1.2        Component – Header and data

All components were reduced to two parts: header and data. The user can choose to show header left or right, while in data part the user will be able to notice data selection field easily, since it has been marked with another color:

Besides that, formatting parameters were listed under the data field, while cell format settings (borders – top, bottom, left, right) are available in specific group and it is possible to select those borders graphically (by clicking on it – ON/OFF):

7.1.3        Default rubric format

In every rubric, it is possible to turn default settings ON or OFF:

Besides that, it is possible to quickly turn defaults on or off in all rubrics at once, by using buttons “Defaults on” or “Defaults off”. This way, the configuration of long section created with older Urbano version will still work the same way as previously, while the user will be able to change default parameters for all rubrics and turn those defaults on with a single click.

7.1.4        New component – data on stations

Within new component “Longitudinal section data on Stations” it is possible to show various data, (such as terrain elevation, pipe elevation/ depth and station values in nodes) for all selected  elements – nodes, additional points, lateral inlets, intersection points, arcs, intersecting lines and auxiliary lines:

7.2       Graphics– new features

7.2.1        Intersections

In the graphical part, it is possible to show intersections with the color of the intersecting system (vertical line, pipe cross section, label). To do so, it is necessary to define relevant colors as “Automatic”:

7.2.2        Manhole labels

It is possible to turn on automatic shifting of manhole labels.

7.2.3        Vertical arcs

It is possible to turn on drawing of vertical arcs (vertical arcs must be defined with special function).

7.3       Editing of the configuration – new features

7.3.1        Interactive selection of the element to be edited

It is possible to interactively select the element of longitudinal section (text or graphichs),

7.3.2        Apply button

When changing certain parameters inside configuration of longitudinal section, it is possible to click APPLY and see the changes, but without closing the dialog. This way it will be faster and easier for the users to edit the configuration.

7.3.3        Scaling of longitudinal section

It is possible to change scale much easier – when changing scale from cm to mm, thr program will automatically scale rubrics and texts height.

7.3.4        Edit configuration of selected longitudinal section

It is possible to interactively select longitudinal section from the drawing, and edit its configuration. This option is very useful when there are many longitudinal sections, drawn with different configurations.

 

The function is available on the main menu Tools-Longitudinal sections -> Edit configuration, as well as on Ribbon, in the group of commands relate do long sections:

7.4       Longitudinal section manager – new features

7.4.1        Modeless dialog

Longitudinal section manages in Urbano 9.1 has been improved, so it can be placed on screen all the time – it is possible to work with other functions at the same time.

7.4.2        Filtering

It is possible to filter longitudinal sections to be shown in the list (all, active system,

7.4.3        Data

It is possible to choose the data to be shown for longitudinal sections - starting and ending station, length, system, configuration name, description (it can be changed).

7.4.4        Marking and zoom

It is possible to set automatic marking and zoom to layout when navigating through longitudinal sections.

7.4.5        Status

When longitudinal section is valid, needs update or is invalid, the row color will be different.

7.4.6        Sorting

It is possible to sort longitudinal sections according to any parameter.

7.4.7        Renaming

It is possible to rename longitudinal section in the table, and the name will be automatically updated.

7.4.8        Rearranging

It is possible to rearrange longitudinal sections by using arranging buttons on the bottom of the dialog.

8         Plotting of longitudinal sections – new features

8.1       Layout plot setup

Function Layout plot setup has been improved with new options - it is possible to define some parameters directly in this dialog (such as maximum frame length). Those parameters were previously available in the Catalog of printing frames but were moved here, to make the usage easier.

8.2       Draw frames in layout

Function Draw frames to layout, which transfers previously drawn frames to CAD Layouts as Viewports, has been improved with new options as well. In new version, it is possible to draw each frame into separate CAD Layout, or more frames to one Layout (when the frames reach maximum length, program switches to new Layout). It is possible to use existing Layouts, or from the external template file. This way, the users will be able to adjust longitudinal sections for plotting faster, and use CAD command Publish to plot them all at once.

8.3       Draw aligned profiles in model

Draw aligned profiles in model is a new function, that has been developed to break long sections directly in the CAD Model (no need for CAD Layout).

 

To break long sections, it is possible to use one of available options (interactively or automatically), or by using the frames drawn in the previous step:

9         User data – new features

 

User data functionality has been significantly improved and changed, comparing to the older version of the program. The most important difference is the concept: in older versions, user data were related to the system in which they were created, while in new version this functionality has been excluded from the system. This way the users can define user data for all systems at once, it is not necessary to move user data from one system to another anymore.

9.2       Input User data

In new version, it is much easier to input user data – the program shows only the data relevant to the current system and element types. It is possible to define more user data for one element at once, or one (or more) data for multiple elements at once.

9.3     Import of User data from external sources

When importing data from external sources (such as SHP, TXT, LandXML, database..), the program offers the possibility to create new user data types automatically, and to store external source information within those user data. The program will store user data into relevant group, depending on the element types they were related to. If the same user data already exists in the drawing, the program will use it, instead of creating new one.

When configuring the import, another new option has been added – Set node type/equipment for all nodes. When this option is ON, the program will assign selected node type/equipment for all the nodes imported in this step.

10     Hydra – new features

In Urbano 9.1, Hydra module has been changed significantly in comparison to the 9.0 version of the program. Performance of certain functions has been accelerated, certain commands and various parameters are better described and explained, and besides that, some new functions were implemented. The biggest new feature in the Hydra module is certainly the possibility to create and analyze various scenarios of demands and water consumption which can be very useful when designing firefighting demands.

In addition to scenarios, it is necessary to emphasize the news in defining positions and directions of pumps and valves, more options when defining parameters of node equipment that will be exported to INP file for calculation and possible further analysis (modelling software EPANET), the new design of various dialogs among which the dialogs for defining demands and for pipe optimization (initial pipe selection) are the most important.

10.1  Hydraulic equipment separated from node equipment

Function Node equipment function has been separated into two functions: Air release and mud valves and Hydraulic node equipment. This step was made to strictly separate air release and mud valves (elements that are only graphically displayed in layout and long sections) from hydraulic node equipment (Reservoir, Tank, Emitter, Valves, Pump) – EPANET’s node equipment that affects hydraulic calculation.

 

Hydraulic node equipment is a new function where the user can define hydraulic equipment for nodes and define the parameters at once (water height in the tank, pump/valve settings…).

 

10.2 Network elements data

Function Network elements data has also been redesigned - in the new version of the program it is clearly defined which data are required for the calculation (data marked with an *), and which data are arbitrary. Also, one of the important new features are default (suggested) values for certain parameters, such as the water levels in the tank, valve diameters etc.

Various additional parameters for hydraulic equipment were added as well, such as relative water level for Reservoir (water source such as lake), pipe status (Open, Closed, Control Valve), initial status for pump (Open/Closed), fixed status for Valve (Open/Closed/None).

10.3   Water demands and scenario analysis

Water demands and scenario analysis function has been significantly improved, and now it is also possible to perform a complete hydraulic calculation in this function. It is possible to create various configurations of consumption, for inhabitants and other consumption types. In scenarios, it is possible to define various combinations of previously defined consumption configurations.

Once the scenarios were created, it is possible to show and compare current calculation results. This way, it is possible to determine the most unfavorable water consumption scenario and size network elements (pipe diameters) according to it.

10.4  Checking of model and data for hydraulic calculation

In new program version, it is possible to perform hydraulic calculation without checking the data. After the calculation, the results will be shown in the integrated data table, where new values will be shown in parenthesis( ), close to the current values. It is possible to open INP file right after the calculation is done, as well as full .RPT (report) file with the calculation results.

Program shows three groups of errors: Info, Warning and Errors. Program will report an error if some obligatory element property were not defined, if certain parts of systems were not connected with the rest, if it wasn’t possible to resolve hydraulic equations or similar. In that case, the program will not be able to finish the calculation.

10.5 Pipe optimization

Function Pipe optimization has been extended with new option – it is possible to select scenario relevant for pipe sizing. Besides that, data table has been embedded, so the user can review results before saving. For sections selected in the table (rows), it is possible to change pipe diameter by using “+” button for increasing diameter and “-“ button for decreasing diameter.

11       Polygons - new features

 

11.1  Drawing polygons – new features

Module Polygon Manager has been significantly improved in comparison to previous versions of the program. Existing functions have been enhanced and improved, and in addition, some new functions were added. Execution speed of certain functions, as well as the functionality and stability of the program as a whole, have been increased significantly. Almost all dialogs have been redesigned to be more clear and accesible to the user, and some options in the dialogs have been additionally graphically explained with pictures that describe each command.

 

11.2  Cut polygons

Function Cut polygons is one of the biggest novelties – function offers new options, function stability has been increased, dialogs were re-designed. All commands were described with corresponding picture which makes them easier to use.

11.3 Edit polygons and polygon nodes

In new version, it is possible to edit polygons and its nodes by using CAD commands for polyline vertex editing – stretch, add, remove. All geometric changes will be automatically update in dynamic tables and labels (area, perimeter, node coordinates…).

 

11.4       Buffer/Union/Intersection

These functions were divided into four separate functions, that can be selected from the combo box. When the function is changed, picture on the bottom changes as well. In the Buffer function new option has been added – it is possible to create round buffer around poylgons and/or topology elements.

11.5 Overlay analysis

Overlay analysis (analysis of polygon overlapping) has been enhanced and improved with new options.  By using dynamic data tables, it is very easy to work with polygons created by overlay analysis, review areas and area percent of original polygons.

 

11.6 Ribbon

For polygon topology, ribbon has been enabled. New Ribbon tab, Urbano Polygon has been introduced, which contains functions for quick polygon editing (draw polygons, interactive editing, erasing, move/add/delete polygon nodes. Interactive editing consists of several quick commands that the program will offer when the user moves cursor close to polygon, node or edge:

12      Canalis – new features

12.1  Rectangular pipes B x H

In Urbano 9.1, it is possible to define rectangular pipes in the catalog, with arbitrary dimensions (B-width, H-heigth).

 One group of rectangular pipes will be available in the new installation.

Also, it is possible to calculate hydraulic values for those pipes (flow velocity, filling percent, filling height).

12.2  Pressure pipe calculation

In Urbano 9.1, in the Canalis module, a new function for hydraulic calculation in pressurized pipelines has been implemented. In the following sections the new functionality is described, an overview of the formulas used in the calculation is given and the basics of calculation in pressurized pipelines are explained.

 

Friction factor calculation formula – It is possible to choose between the Colebrook-White equation and several approximations of the Colebrook-White equation (Haaland, Serghides and Swamee-Jain).

 

13      Geo – new features

13.1  Automatic dimensions in cross sections

System “Geodesy”, cross sections – it is possible to define characteristic points of cross sections and create automatic dimensions according to those points.

13.2 Import GEO points – new option

When importing GEO points (System Geodesy), it is also possible to set imported points in the chosen group of points.

 

14     Assembly schemes – new catalog

 

New catalog of parametric elements has been created, based on HRN EN 545 and DIN norms. Group that contains those elements is called “Urbano”.

15      New minor features

15.1  House connections – new features

Drawing of house connections has been extended with an important feature – it is possible to “lock” the position of house connection on the place of the connection of the main collector. In other words, when editing invert of the main collector, the house connections will follow, according to the setting.

15.2  Input data - Custom stations

This function allows the user do define starting station for an array. When drawing longitudinal section of that array, the user will be able to select the option to calculate stations according to the custom defined starting station. Except that, if the user draws longitudinal section with the starting node somewhere in the middle of that array, the program will automatically re-calculate the station. This is enabled when drawing station labels as well.

15.3    Tools: Set data for Bank of cities style

With this function, the user can define pipeline status according to Bank of Cities categories, related to category of sewer system. The function can be used within Turkish extension (special module).

15.5  New system types – Vacuum and Gas

New types of systems were added: Vacuum and Gas.

15.5.1    Insert lift

New function is available in the „Vacuum“system:– Insert lift . Function takes place in main branch Tools-Longitudinal sections. This function inserts „Lift“in longitudinal section, which is actually new section with opposite slope of 1000 ‰ (45°). It is possible to select length 20, 30 or 45 cm (since those are common dimensions), or type some other value (i.e. 80 cm). This „saw“ in vertical plane is specific for vacuum sewage systems that can be installed with quite low depth , thanks to vacuum technology for water lifting (no need for pumping).

It is possible to insert lift interactively, on defined station, or automatically, every „n“ meters.

15.6  System check – new option

System check – new option shows nodes that were drawn close to the section, but were not connected to it. The user can connect it by using this function, if necessary (program will not do it automatically, since it may not be a problem).

15.7  Conversion of CAD elements – new features

Function for conversion of CAD elements has been improved with new features and pictures that describe the options, it is also possible to define terrain elevation source (DTM, 3D polyline elevations), invert elevation (under the terrain), assign pipes, labels and set tolerance for elements that were not properly connected.

Also, if the polyline to be converted is connected with the existing Urbano network somewhere in the middle of the section, the program will break it, create new node and connect new network part in that node.
